Production method

Steam distillation, from the wood of Santalum spicatum.

Main components

Santalol, santalenes. Western Australian Sandalwood contains higher levels of farnesol and alpha-bisabolol than the East Indian oil (Santalum Album).

Aroma

Distinctive sandalwood fragrance with a dry bitter topnote.

Main uses

Perfumery, cosmetics, aromatherapy.

Extracted from plantation trees, our Western Australian Sandalwood is a viable, environmentally friendly substitute for East Indian sandalwood (Santalum album). Our steam distilled Western Australian sandalwood is obtained from ethically harvested plants, and has not been tested on animals.
Due to its higher levels of farnesol and alpha-bisabolol, WA Sandalwood is considered to have higher antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties than the East Indian.

Blending suggestions

A traditional base note, or "fixative", blends well with any top or middle note essential oils.
