Lemon Scented Tea-Tree - Essential oil of Leptospermum petersonii: description & uses
Also known as Leptospermum citratum. Mainly composed of citral and citronellal, and said to have antiseptic, antimicrobial, carminative and sedative properties, Lemon Tea-Tree has a much nicer, rounder "lemony" scent than citronella or lemongrass.
- Place of origin
- Northern New South Wales, Queensland (Australia)
- Production method
- Steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of Leptospermum petersonii.
- Main components
- Citral, citronellal.
- Aroma
- Round lemon scent with backnotes reminiscent of citronella and lemongrass.
- Main uses
- Perfumery, cosmetics, aromatherapy, bug-repellent products.
- Comments
- Said to have antiseptic, antimicrobial, carminative and sedative properties, it is used in aromatic blends for the oil burner to combat coughs and colds. It is also successfully used as a powerful insect repellent.
- Safety notes
- Since citral and citronellal are said to be powerful skin irritants, always use diluted in direct skin applications.
For full details, refer to MSDS, GC and Physicochemical Data reports from supplier/distiller..
